eBay Promotes Car Parts Dealer, Car Rental Marketplace

eBay sent out an email this week advertising a sale on eBay Motors – but it linked to a single seller. The marketing email told recipients, “tune up with storewide savings up to 65% off auto parts – free shipping, ends February 26” and linked to Car Parts Wholesale.

Underneath the main message linking to the eBay Motors seller, eBay included additional promotional messages, including one advertising car rental marketplace Turo. “Rent out your car – earn up to $1,000 a month on Turo. List now to qualify for a $100 bonus.” The marketing message in the eBay Motors email linked to a cobranded landing page on Turo.com.

Turo is similar to Airbnb but instead of renting out a room in your home, you rent your car.

Turo spokesperson Steve Webb said the company has a deep relationship with eBay – “not only did we launch this partnership that is mutually beneficially to both the eBay and Turo communities today, but Turo has rich eBay DNA – our CEO, COO and GC are all former eBay execs.”

He said Wednesday’s announcement was also part of a bigger nationwide partnership that includes eBay Motors, 2012 TechCrunch Disrupt winner, YourMechanic, as well as national players Meineke and Jiffy Lube to offer exclusive discounts to Turo owners called Turo Car Care.
