eBay’s Advice to Holiday Shoppers Sets Expectations

eBay had some advice for shoppers going into the holidays which it sent in an email to users with the subject line, “The eBay way: Shop with confidence.” Inside, the title read, “You deserve the best shopping experience – So, we’re sharing the best selling, shipping and return tips.”

Here is eBay’s list of “Tips for a great shopping experience”:

  • Look for Top Rated Sellers
  • Get Free Shipping
  • Check the seller’s return policy

eBay advised shoppers to look for the Top Rated sellers badge next to the sellers’ names “for fast shipping and 14-day return policy.” It provided a link called Shop Top Sellers that led to this page.

It also advised shoppers to use its Free Shipping filter to “save some money for your next purchase.” For some reason, that led to a page featuring sunglasses (the ones we checked did offer free shipping).

Its final bit of advice was to check sellers’ return policies. “If the item isn’t exactly what you ordered, the eBay Money Back Guarantee may be able to help.” A link labeled “Learn What’s Covered” led to this page.

Does eBay’s advice set reasonable shopper expectations? And are those the three tips you would give to family and friends asking you for advice about shopping on eBay? Let us know –
