Etsy Puts Relevant Reviews before Others

Etsy announced it has changed the way reviews appear in sellers’ shop listings. Reviews appear in order of recency, but now when shoppers visit a particular product listing page, they will see reviews relevant to that listing at the top of the reviews feed for that page. “By showing shoppers reviews that are relevant to the items they’re shopping for, we hope to increase buyer confidence and bring more sales to your shop,” Etsy announced.

How does Etsy determine relevancy? Spokesperson Nikki Summer told EcommerceBytes that Etsy looks to see if an item has been reviewed already, and surfaces those reviews to the top for that listing. One can presume sellers of one-of-a-kind items won’t be affected, since their reviews will continue to be shown in order of recency.

Summer explained that review relevancy will only be visible on a listing page. “If you’re viewing a listing, we will surface reviews relevant to that listing first if we can.”

The announcement is found in this Seller Handbook post on the Etsy website.
