Amazon Includes FBA Orders in Bright Minions-Branded Boxes

The word is out that Amazon is shipping some orders in bright yellow boxes decorated with cartoon characters from the soon to be released movie, “Minions” (sequel to the Despicable Me movies). But FBA sellers may be wondering if Amazon will ship their orders in the decorated boxes as well.

Amazon spokesperson Kristin Mariani explained that select Amazon fulfillment centers are currently shipping customer orders in bright yellow, Minions-branded Amazon boxes featuring the movie cartoon characters Kevin, Stuart and Bob. “The boxes may be used for any Amazon shipment (from those select fulfillment centers), which could include items purchased from Amazon.com or a third-party seller using our Fulfillment by Amazon program, while quantities last.”

She told EcommerceBytes the boxes span a range of sizes, and may be used to ship an array of products ranging from books and DVDs to small toys, electronics, or sporting goods. “This is the first time we’ve worked with a brand to do a full takeover of the Amazon box,” she said.

The tie-in goes beyond the boxes. “We’ve collaborated to “bring the Minions to life” on Amazon.com and – in many cases – on Amazon boxes, leading up to the film’s release on July 10. Today that includes a dedicated Minions storefront (amazon.com/minions) in which customers can find Amazon’s selection of Minions merchandise (movies, toys, apparel, and more).”

And it doesn’t end there. “You’ll see more Minions “popping up” as we move closer to the film’s release date,” Mariani said.

It isn’t the first time online shoppers will receive orders in movie-branded boxes. Last year, the USPS collaborated with Sony Pictures to bring Superman to Priority Mail boxes, trucks, and marketing messages to promote the movie, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

Amazon’s Mariani was unable to share details about how many fulfillment centers were shipping the special boxes or which ones.
