PayPal hired a global strategist in advance of its breakup with eBay later this year. Jonathan Auerbach will serve as Senior Vice President of Strategy and Growth.
PayPal President Dan Schulman, who will become CEO after the split, said Auerbach’s role will be to identify new opportunities to drive growth with merchants and consumers around the world. He will be responsible for Strategy, Business Development and M&A (mergers and acquisitions).
“He’ll focus on developing a global strategy that aligns our work with our vision to make the management and movement of money simpler as we become the operating system for digital commerce,” Schulman wrote.
Auerbach spent 26 years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and less than a year at Singtel, where he served as CEO of Group Digital Life and led its $250 million venture fund.
PayPal also named Louise Pentland its new General Counsel. The former head of legal at Nokia will join PayPal on April 27th. PayPal said she has deep legal and commercial knowledge along with a strategic understanding of the mobile technology landscape. She’ll be responsible for PayPal’s compliance with financial and regulatory requirements around the world.
