PayPal Uses Shark Tamer to Promote Its Service

Entrepreneur, investor, and and star of ABC’s Shark Tank television program Daymond John appeared in a video promoting PayPal as a safe way to pay for goods and also helped judge a contest for PayPal at the South by Southwest (SXSW) shindig over the weekend.

PayPal is running a contest in which it is giving out daily cash prizes and a chance to win a $50,000 grand prize. The 5 Million Cents contest requires participants to watch a video with “great tips about shopping with PayPal.”

John is featured in the video launched on March 13th, which starts with him ordering a guitar and talking about the benefits of shopping with PayPal, and ends with him rejecting a delivery of a guitar that’s not as described while explaining shoppers can be covered in such cases.

The Five Million Cents Instant Win Game & Sweepstakes kicked off on March 13 and runs through April 11, 2015. PayPal will give away one First Prize, ten Second Prizes and fifty Third Prizes daily. To play the game, participants go to the contest websiteand watch the 30-second video.

PayPal also hired Daymond John to appear at its South by Southwest “PayPal Duel,” where two small business owners pitched the entrepreneur for a chance to win $30,000 and one-on-one coaching sessions.

The winner of the showdown was Florida-based Earhoox, featured in this Orlando Sentinel article about the competition.
