Amazon’s UK site experienced an outage beginning at about 6 pm GMT, according to TechWeekEurope.
Amazon UK spokesperson Ruth Attridge told EcommerceBytes, “Amazon.co.uk was down for approximately 2 hours yesterday. The site is back up. Amazon’s systems are very complex and on rare occasions, despite our best efforts, they may experience problems.”
She did not say what time the outage occurred or whether other European sites were impacted as well. TechWeekEurope said reports suggested the site was down across most of Europe as well, and a report from Netcraft said affected sites included amazon.co.uk, amazon.de and amazon.fr.
TechWeekEurope wrote, “Service seemed to resume at 7pm GMT, but downdetector.co.uk points to another outage at 10pm GMT which lasted for around an hour.”
Sunday evenings are traditionally a popular time for online shopping.
