eBay Reminds Users of Its Smartphone Promotion

“You can’t lose when you list your phone on eBay,” according to its unusual promotion. Participants can auction their mobile phones on eBay and, if they use its recommended starting price, they won’t lose out.

First, if their phone sells for less than eBay’s predetermined “trending price,” eBay will give sellers an eBay coupon for the difference. Secondly, if their phone fails to sell at all, eBay will provide them with a $100 coupon. Users are eligible for one coupon only.

The promotion, which started on September 1st, will expire on December 31, 2014, eBay reminded users in messaging on Monday.

One skeptical seller told EcommerceBytes he thought eBay’s pricing guidance to which participants must adhere were “completely unrealistic.”

Only 3, 5, 7, and 10 day listing durations in an auction-style or auction-style plus Buy It Now format are included in the promotion, which does not include insertion fees, final value fees or optional upgrade fees.

See which phones are eligible for the promotion and read details and restrictions on the eBay website.
