eBay Sets Personalized Sales Goals for Some Sellers

Could you boost your online sales by 25%? eBay thinks some of its sellers can, and is entering them into a sweepstakes as part of its effort to motivate them to meet that goal.

eBay sent personalized invitations explaining, “Because your past sales indicate that you can sell even more, we’d like to give you a personalized sales goal of $(redacted) – and help you meet it. To help you succeed, we’ll send you your sales activity details and valuable seller insights so you can sell more than ever!”

One invitation read, “Did you know you made $1,1XX selling earlier this year? Based on your performance – and your sales this past month – we think you can outdo yourself in the next two months. So, we’ve set a sales goal for you to strive for and enjoy even greater success!”

The invitation promised to send the seller personalized progress reports and pro seller tips:

  • Your performance summary: Track your progress and see individual sales stats.
  • Seller insights and tips: Learn what buyers are looking for so you can sell them what they want. Hot items.
  • See what’s selling now – plus what they’re selling for – and price your items to sell.”

To further motivate sellers to reach the goals it set for them, eBay is running an accompanying sweepstakes: “Twenty winners selected in two random drawings will be awarded FREE final value fees for up to 75 listings. Reach your goal now before time runs out to be entered automatically.”

The first random drawing includes invited sellers who have increased their sales by 25% by December 15, 2014 and the second drawing that includes invited sellers who have increased their sales by 25% by January 15, 2015. eBay will award 10 prizes for each drawing consisting of free final value fees for 75 listings in 2015. (See the sweepstakes rules for all the details and restrictions.) The Sweepstakes began November 10, 2014 and ends on January 15, 2015.

Interestingly eBay recently conducted a survey asking sellers what it could do to improve the insights and coaching that it provides to sellers to help them become more successful selling on eBay.

Let us know if you’ve received an invitation and what you think of eBay’s goal-setting sweepstakes:
