eBay Hires Co-founder of Google Checkout Initiative

eBay hired the engineer who co-founded the Google Checkout payments initiative to be a Vice President of Engineering. Louis Perrochon was Engineering Lead on Google Checkout from 2004 – 2007, which, prior to launch was rumored to be a “PayPal killer.” He was most recently Senior Director, Engineering at Google.

eBay said Perrochon is assuming responsibility and leadership for engineering in eBay’s Commerce Experience organization. “As the VP of Engineering, Perrochon will lead a team of engineers who are responsible for driving global product development across a variety of commerce specific domains,” according to eBay’s announcement.

“He will set the technology vision and strategy for developing multiscreen shopping, selling, payments and transaction capabilities along with engineering leadership over customer service engagement tools and new commerce advertising platforms.”

Perrochon also holds five patents, three of them related to commerce and payments.

eBay’s Chief Product Officer R.J. Pittman introduced the new Commerce Experience organization in May, according to the announcement, which quoted him saying Perrochon would be “instrumental in helping the Commerce Experience organization create state-of-the-art shopping and selling experiences across Marketplaces worldwide.”
