eBay Sweeps Up Would-Be Bidders for New Live-Auctions Platform

eBay has found an interesting way to build a personalized mailing list of collectors who might be interested in its new live-auction platform, coming soon, in which Sotheby’s is a key partner. eBay is running a sweepstakes offering a chance to win $5,000 or one of ten $100 eBay gift cards for those willing to provide the marketplace with information about their collecting interests and join its email list.

eBay promises collectors the following “perks” for signing up for the sweepstakes:

  • Explore fine art, antiques and more from premium auction houses;
  • Know when eBay’s new real-time online bidding experience launches;
  • Learn about upcoming promotions and special offers.

The perks for eBay: it gains valuable data and an email marketing list. The Collectibles & Art Sweepstakes asks eBay visitors to select their favorite topics and lets them choose 12 types of collectibles, including Antiques; Fine Art, Prints & Photography; Collectible Cars; and Wine. It also asks them to select their preferred price range in five buckets ranging from “under $100” to “$5001-plus.”

The Collectibles & Art Sweepstakes runs from July 14 through July 27, 2014, and the drawing takes place on August 5, 2014. More information is found on the eBay Sweepstakes page (hosted by Tenthwave site Promotw.com).
