Adam Ireland Replaces Gene Cook as Head of eBay Collectibles

eBay

eBay executive Adam Ireland revealed that he started a new position as Vice President and General Manager, Global Collectibles. He replaced Gene Cook, who recently left eBay as we reported on June 27.

eBay did not announce the changes on the Seller Announcement board – sellers were left to learn about the news on LinkedIn posts written by the executives. “There is no category that is more reflective of what makes eBay such an amazing place than Collectibles – such a vibrant, passionate community of buyers and sellers, an incredible assortment of inventory from around the globe, and all powered by the unique eBay marketplace business model,” Ireland wrote in part on LinkedIn on Monday. Unlike many eBay top executives these days, Ireland is not a “boomerang” (a reference to someone who returned to eBay after a former stint at the company), but he has remained at the company for nearly 13 years.

eBay did announce in March that Dawn Block replaced Ireland as General Manager for the US market through the following post written by Block on the Seller Announcement board:

“Hi sellers!
“We are on a path to building a stronger eBay for the future — one that is growing and resilient in the face of any challenge. Change can be perceived in many different ways. So, I wanted to take a moment to inform you of another change – a change in leadership – that change being, me.

“I’m Dawn Block, the new General Manager for the U.S. market. I’m incredibly grateful to my predecessor, Adam Ireland, for his skilled and thoughtful leadership, and I look forward to building on the momentum that his team has created.

“I joined eBay in 2021 and have been responsible for driving exceptional shopping and selling experiences across Fashion, Collectibles, and Home and Garden in the U.S., U.K., and Germany. Over the years, I have witnessed the transformation of eBay. Some of the initiatives I have been super involved in are the Vault and our Authenticity Guarantee program. Both experiences are built around trust; trust for the buyer and seller; trust for the eBay community entirely. Trust is what I hope to earn from eBay sellers as we begin this new journey together.

“Sellers have been and will continue to be near and dear to my heart along this new journey. You are entrepreneurial. You are passionate about your businesses and the eBay community. You use this marketplace to create opportunities for yourselves and others. You inspire me.

“Coming into this new role, my number one priority will be to support growth for the eBay community. With vibrant sellers comes vibrant buyers and a vibrant community and platform. I look forward to partnering with you and most importantly, listening to you. I have a great deal to learn from this community. You are the true eBay experts. Your voice matters and your feedback is valued, and it will certainly be used to evolve the eBay platform.

“Buckle up for the ride ahead! We are in this together. Who knows, you may catch me bidding on a pair of your sneakers and I may catch you buying apparel from me. WE are eBay!
“Happy selling!

According to their LinkedIn profiles:

Jordan Sweetnam was Senior VP and GM of Americas Market from July 2019 through June 2022, when he was promoted to Senior VP and GM of eBay Global Markets

Adam Ireland was VP of eBay Americas Operations from June 2019 through August 2022, when he was promoted to GM of eBay US Market. In May 2024, he was appointed VP and GM of Global Collectibles.

Dawn Block was promoted to VP and GM of US eBay in March of 2024.

eBay CEO Jamie Iannone also reserves his company-related news for LinkedIn posts rather than sharing on eBay’s own corporate blog or announcement board. His most recent LinkedIn posts were on the topic of the recent fundraiser auction held by the Elton John AIDS Foundation on eBay, and prior to that, a post about Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions, which eBay recently acquired.

  1. Unless it’s Kathy Ireland – we don’t care.

%99.9 of eBay employees have no idea what it’s like to sell on the site and therefore are useless.

Every one of these brilliant ideas stink and would never be implemented if they understood the behemoth that is eBay as it works AGAINST you at every turn.

  2. The eBay collectibles categories were RUINED when hundreds of them were eliminated in favor of AI searching. The result is that it’s nearly impossible to find what I used to be able to find by just going to that category. Time-proven categories like daguerreotypes and postcards organized by states were killed off. The result is that I’m buying a tiny fraction of the vintage collectibles and antiques that I was buying 20 years ago. Shame on eBay for not listening to the buyers and sellers who built eBay! I’m an eBay user since 1996 and Auction Web.
