
Etsy advised sellers of some improvements to gift features as part of its “journey to become the go-to gifting destination.” It also launched its Holiday Hub, which it described as sellers’ “go-to resource for the upcoming gift-giving season” where they will find top tips and resources provided in easy steps.
Etsy came up with the gifting-destination marketing strategy early in 2024 when it ran a television commercial during the Super Bowl promoting its Gift Mode, “an interactive hub for gifting that combines AI and human curation to help shoppers find the perfect present,” that it had launched in January.
In its announcement on Thursday, Etsy shared more details, including the following section under the heading, “Improvements to fulfilling gift orders”:
In January, we launched Etsy gift teaser to all buyers globally opening up more possibilities for last-minute shoppers to purchase extra-special gifts from sellers like you. And over the past few months we’ve continued to improve the gift shopping experience through gift teaser video messages and themes and the expansion of Gift Mode to all global markets.
We heard your feedback about gift orders! We’re making a few changes to the seller experience that will make fulfilling gift orders more seamless and efficient.
Clarifying the ‘note to seller’ field
Gift buyers are 4x as likely to use the ‘note to seller’ field than non-gift buyers—and often use it to ask you to add a gift note (even when you don’t offer it!). We’re updating the ‘note to seller’ copy in cart and checkout to better clarify to buyers where gift messages should be entered.
Adding a new gift teaser badge to orders
We know it can be confusing to see a gift note attached to an order when your messages are disabled. We’re adding a NEW badge to orders in Shop Manager to show when a gift teaser is included on an order.
Alerting you of a gift teaser added post-purchase
We’ll be making a change that allows buyers to add a gift teaser post-purchase. When that happens, we’ll badge the order in Shop Manager with the 3 gift badges.
Updating enabling and disabling messaging
We’ve updated the messaging in Shop Options to make it clearer to enable or disable offering gift messages with purchases.
We’ll continue to optimize both the seller and buyer gifting experience over the coming months as part of Etsy’s journey to become the go-to gifting destination. Ahead of the upcoming holiday season, make sure you’re highlighting your incredible items to gift shoppers by using relevant gift-worthy titles and tags, and offering extra add-ons like gift wrap and gift messages!
In Thursday’s announcement, Etsy also linked to the 2024 Holiday Hub where it reminded sellers about the imminent launch of the Etsy Insider, a buyer membership program that will launch to a select group of US buyers in September. “It’s one of the ways we’re keeping Etsy top of mind for buyers to help bring you more sales,” Etsy wrote.
