USPS Reports Delays in Chicago, Scans Impacted

The US Postal Service said it’s aware of delays in the Greater Chicago Area, and it will use alternate facilities for temporary processing. That means tracking scans may show the alternate facilities that include the Springdale, OH Annex, Grand Rapids, MI NDC, and the Detroit, MI NDC.

While USPS’s bulletin did not describe the nature of the delays, it said it had implemented a plan to increase processing capacity across the Chicago region to address the recent service delays.

It began shifting a portion of the package volume normally processed in the Chicago, IL Regional Processing & Distribution Center (RPDC) – NASS Code 60Z, 7500 Roosevelt Rd, Forest Park, IL 60130, to the alternate facilities for temporary processing through early September.

“The Greater Chicago Area is actively working towards service recovery,” the Postal Service wrote. “We appreciate your patience as we achieve the level of service you expect and deserve.”

Update 8/25/2025: updated to correct the location of the Springdale Annex’s location, which is in Ohio, not Illinois.

  1. The entire U.S. Postal System is having problems scanning & sorting, not just the greater Chicago area. 98% of all Ground Dis-Advantage packages shipped by me in the last 2 – 3 months never arrive when USPS suggests, busting their suggested delivery by 1 – 3 days longer. I sent a package Priority to Chicago two weeks ago on a Monday from Colorado, USPS stated it would be delivered Friday, the package was delivered Monday.

Customer paid $30.00 for the supposed faster delivery because they needed it by Friday. I sent 2 other packages to Chicago Ground Dis-Advantage on the same day and they arrived in Chicago Friday and the cost was half the price of the Priority Package.

Additionally, the majority of my packages now do not show a scan the day they are dropped off at the P.O. until the next day and of course, Ebay thinks I mailed them late, which now has messed up my performance on Ebay. Appealed supposed late scans with copies of the P.O. receipts attached showing acceptance by the P.O. within my handling time – appeal denied by the Great Ebay AI.
