The Postal Service is adding faster-delivery options through its relatively new USPS Ground Advantage and Connect offerings. On January 6, 2025, the Postal Service announced its plans to offer same-day and next-day solutions, but they come with some limitations.
USPS Ground Advantage “Next Day Priority” will offer “competitive pricing tailored to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes,” however, it’s designed for businesses with minimum daily shipping volumes that can meet defined cutoff windows. It will reach 87% of the U.S. population (approximately 295 million people) daily, according to the announcement.
USPS said the Next Day Priority option was an expansion of its role as the last-mile service provider of choice, calling it a “groundbreaking solution for businesses.” It will cover every home and business within 150 miles of USPS Regional Processing and Distribution Centers (RPDCs), connecting to 200 Local Processing Centers (LPCs) for overnight delivery to thousands of Postal Delivery Units.
Meanwhile, it’s also offering same-day and next-day solutions through USPS Connect, which “expands your regional reach with the same reliability and affordability you expect from the Postal Service.”
There is a minimum daily volume requirement of 10 pieces, 10 pounds or less, with pickup options through pre-approved agreements.
The USPS announcement advised customers to “Stay tuned as we unveil more details about how our enhanced regional and national networks can revolutionize your shipping strategy.”
USPS advised shippers wanting to learn more to visit its website and fill out a form to get in touch withcontact their USPS sales representative and “explore tailored shipping solutions that work for you.”
*** Amazon… a real competitor ***
I’m sure the postal service is finding it difficult to compete with Amazon. For $7 bucks, I can have an Amazon order delivered “Next Day”, and for an additional $12 bucks, I can have an Amazon ordered delivered “Same Day”. This is a great move by USPS to provide Sellers with faster shipping.
