eBay Publishes New Regulatory Guide for Sellers

eBay launched a new regulatory guide designed to be sellers’ go-to resource for laws and regulations. It told sellers that noncompliance with government regulations could result in eBay restricting their selling activity, hiding their listings, “and more.”

The new guide comes 4 years after eBay created a regulatory portal that reportedly allowed regulators to remove listings without consulting eBay if they believed the items were dangerous.

“It can be challenging to keep track of the laws and regulations that may apply to you when selling on eBay, especially since they come from various authorities,” eBay said in Friday’s announcement. “To save you time and support your success on eBay, we’ve launched a new regulatory guide. It’s designed to be your go-to resource for laws and regulations at ebay.com/regulatory.”

Some regulations may not require changes to sellers’ eBay listings. “In this case, we recommend reviewing the emails from eBay that include regulatory information, or the Messages in your eBay account.”

eBay also advised sellers to check the resources in its guide. “The “Discover regulations” tool offers access to resources that may help you understand how to comply with relevant regulations.”

Sellers unsure about any requirements should consult with their legal advisor, eBay said. It also referred sellers to its Product Safety Guidelines for information on mandatory safety standards.
