Etsy Lets Sellers Brand Shops with New Icon

Etsy is encouraging sellers to brand their shops with the introduction of a new icon. Sellers can create an icon that represents their brand and upload it to Etsy where it will be consistently displayed through the website.

“Having a new asset that is separate from your profile picture allows sellers to create a unique branding opportunity,” it explained.

“Once you upload a Shop Icon, buyers will see this image everywhere your shop appears on Etsy, including your Shop Home, and on your receipts,” the company announced last week. “Having a Shop Icon will allow you to have a stronger brand identity, by being able to differentiate your brand from your profile picture.”

What also seems to have prompted the new feature is the importance the company is placing on mobile shopping. “We ask that the images are 500 x 500 pixels for your shop icon and 400 x 400 for shop owner photos. Your current shop avatar is only 75 pixels, which appears blurry on most mobile devices.”

In response to seller feedback, Etsy added the ability to delete a Shop Icon after uploading it. “If you delete a Shop Icon, your shop home will revert back to the original view,” Etsy explained “You will continue to see a Shop Icon on your shop home if you are signed in, but this is only visible to you.”

Etsy also cropped profile pictures from square to circle across the site in order to differentiate people from shops. In Forums, Teams, and Convos, sellers will be represented by their profile photo, which is a circle.

Uploading a shop icon is optional. “If you decide not to upload a shop icon, nothing will change the way buyers see your shop,” the marketplace told sellers.

The full announcement is available on the Etsy website.
