eBay has a new Chief Marketing Officer for North America to help with its new focus under Devin Wenig, who replaced John Donahoe has CEO a month ago.
Suzy Deering will report to Hal Lawton, who is Senior Vice President of eBay North America. Lawton had spent 10 years in merchandising at The Home Depot, where Deering briefly worked in 2011. Lawton is also new to eBay, having joined in May just prior to eBay’s split with PayPal.
eBay said Deering would help “connect eBay’s customers to the things they love and need,” and, it wrote on the company blog, “she’ll bring innovation, a strategic marketing perspective and passionate voice to eBay’s online and offline marketing programs.”
Deering worked for many years at Verizon, and after her brief stint at The Home Depot, became CEO of a digital ad agency in Atlanta called Moxie.
“Following the recent separation of eBay from PayPal, eBay is redefining itself with a more aggressive focus on retailing,” eBay said. “Suzy will lead the eBay Marketing organization driving the long term marketing strategy around eBay’s spectrum of value – providing a range of choices at different value points.”
Deering replaces Richelle Parham, who joined eBay in late 2010 and left in February. She helped launch eBay’s first global campaign in 2014 called “Shop the World” alongside a revamped homepage to push out the same key message across all markets.
