eBay Sellers Helped Raise $1.3 Billion for Charity Since 2003

eBay is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the eBay for Charity program, which allows buyers and sellers to support causes through their transactions.

Sellers can donate up to 100% of the proceeds of a sale (or sales) to the charity of their choice, while buyers can add a donation to their purchase during checkout.

eBay announced on Tuesday that sellers and buyers have helped raise $1.3 billion in charitable giving, “making eBay one of the world’s most active e-commerce giving platforms.”

In 2022, eBay for Charity raised over $163 million, a 12% increase year-over-year.

Charities can sell on eBay to raise money for their organization – eBay automatically chooses 100% as the donation percentage for those sellers and provide the proceeds from their sales directly to the charity.

An interesting factoid: eBay CEO Jamie Iannone was part of the team that founded the program in 2003, according to Tuesday’s announcement. More information about the program is available on charity.ebay.com.
