PayPal to Power Some Shopify Payments

PayPal will power a portion of Shopify Payments in the US, an expansion of its global strategic partnership with the ecommerce platform.

PayPal will become an additional provider for processing online credit and debit card transactions for Shopify Payments in the US through PayPal Complete Payments, “a solution for marketplaces and platforms comprised of flexible and powerful developer tools.”

PayPal wallet transactions will be integrated with Shopify Payments, providing a consolidated view for merchants. The integration will streamline the managing of orders, payouts, reporting, and chargeback flows, offering both innovative payment options and operational efficiency.

“We’re excited to strengthen our partnership with Shopify by bringing exceptional experiences for our joint customers,” PayPal CEO Alex Chriss said in Monday’s announcement. “This showcases PayPal’s growing role as a leading platform of choice for the world’s largest commerce brands, technology companies, and payment processors.”

A company spokesperson told EcommerceBytes that the deal benefits PayPal by expanding its total addressable market while removing friction for merchants. “This follows close on the heels of our recent partnership expansions with Adyen and Fiserv. It demonstrates that PayPal has evolved as the go-to payments platform for the world’s leading commerce brands, technology companies and payment service providers (PSPs).”
