USPS Winter-Weather Warning One Week before Christmas

Bad weather has been causing shipping delays that carried over into this week, with the USPS warning of weather events that could impact processing, transportation, and delivery in great swaths of the country (flooding in the Pacific Northwest, and winter weather in the Northern Plains, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, and Northeastern US).

USPS issued the following update today (Thursday, December 18, 2025), adding warnings that blizzards this week and into the weekend could cause regional issues:

DELIVERY – Winter Weather Update December 18
Due to the winter weather sweeping across the Northern Plains this week and into the weekend, including high winds and blizzard conditions in some locales, the Postal Service anticipates transportation and delivery impacts in some regions. We are continually monitoring these situations and adjusting operations where possible to minimize impact.

Customers may experience impacts in the following states.

  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Minnesota

We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience. The USPS appreciates your patience as we work through these weather impacts.

The potential for weather-related shipping delays comes at a bad time for sellers. Marketplace eBay had assured its sellers on Monday that it would protect them from shipping delays caused by severe weather in the US.
