USPS Delivered Duty Paid Launches for Outbound Packages

USPS launched a new service for shippers who send goods internationally called USPS Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). Announced on Friday, it is currently available for packages going to Canada, Germany, and the UK and will expand to other countries in the future.

As we reported in November, USPS decided to add Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) service to address recent challenges mailers faced related to foreign-country tariffs that apply to certain outbound international items. (With DDP services, recipients face no surprise fees since duties are prepaid prior to shipment.)

The January 30, 2026 USPS Advisory reads as follows:

The U.S. Postal Service is now offering a new international extra service called USPS Delivered Duty Paid (DDP). USPS Delivered Duty Paid enables the sender to prepay import duties, taxes, and fees under the destination country’s requirements at the time of mailing.

USPS DDP intends to ensure delivery of merchandise to the recipient without any additional charges for import duties, taxes, and fees being due upon delivery. Eligible customers have the option to purchase USPS DDP as an extra service when sending goods via Priority Mail Express International (PMEI), Priority Mail International (PMI), and First-Class Package International Service (FCPIS), when available at a retail service counter, online using Click-N-Ship, through USPS APIs or using Global Shipping Software (GSS). USPS DDP is initially available for shipments to Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom – with expansion to other international destinations expected in the future.

Note: USPS DDP is not available for PostalOne!, permit mailers, or mailers who create their own shipping manifests or labels without using USPS software or APIs.

The USPS said more information was available on the USPS International Mail Manual.
