eBay COGS Rollout Complete, Some Sellers Remain Ineligible

eBay finished rolling out its cost-of-goods-sold feature for sellers, but a moderator revealed that eBay is not giving everyone access to it. In response to questions on an eBay discussion board thread, he wrote on Monday, “The cost of goods sold feature has been rolled out to all eligible sellers at this time. We can however share feedback with the Product team for potentially adding additional sellers and reporting feature.”

In discussing the feature referred to as COGS, some sellers said they didn’t have access to it – some cared, some didn’t – not surprising given sellers’ initial reaction to news of the new feature when it began rolling out in stealth mode in September.

“I don’t see a cost field in the listing template. Is it something you have to turn on,” one seller asked. “I agree it’s long over due. I always crack up when eBay tells me how much I “made” based on selling price less fees. Good to hear they’ve discovered the concept of COGS.”

Another seller who said the feature wasn’t available when listing and who couldn’t find an option to turn it on said they wouldn’t use it anyway, writing, “It benefits them far more than it benefits me.”

Once the moderator confirmed it was available only to “eligible” sellers, one person said they wondered what requirements were necessary to be considered eligible. “I suppose I am an eligible seller on one account but not on my other account. I don’t know what I did to get the option or what I didn’t do to get the option on the other account.”

A seller asked the moderator to provide the eligibility criteria and then linked to eBay’s announcement from earlier this month, where there was no mention about eligibility. “Could we find out what the “team” is talking about,” they asked the moderator.
