Walmart Touts Marketplace Performance, Adds Christmas Eve 'Express Delivery'

Walmart is both a retailer and a marketplace, selling and fulfilling goods on behalf of independent sellers. The company recently reported that its Walmart Marketplace set a new single-day conversion record during Black Friday, “with customers flocking to unique Marketplace finds and holiday essentials.”

In touting its “Marketplace momentum,” Walmart wrote, “Shoppers seeking one-of-a-kind items not found in stores raced to the Walmart app – where sellers small and large offered delightful deals across categories. Walmart Marketplace set a new single-day conversion record with PlayStation 5s and Labubus flying off the virtual shelves.”

The company also said its Walmart Fulfillment Services (which is similar to Amazon FBA) surpassed its first full year of GMV in a single day on Black Friday.

In related news, Walmart announced this week it was offering Express Delivery in as fast as one hour on orders placed up to 5 pm local time on Christmas Eve (the advantage of having retail stores):

Customers nationwide can place orders right up to the wire:

  • Express Delivery: Order until 5 p.m. local time on Dec. 24 for delivery in as fast as one hour.
  • Same-day pickup & delivery: Order until 12 p.m. local time on Dec. 24.
  • Standard shipping: Order until 12:30 p.m. local time on Dec. 23 for arrival by Christmas Day.

Walmart also said its delivery capabilities allow it to now reach 95% of US households in under three hours – “with later deadlines and easier ordering, customers can get what they need exactly when they need it this holiday season.”
