A popular tool used by eBay sellers for marketplace research is being forced to close its app and pivot to a new offering called ShelfTrend AI, which it’s calling “an innovative, AI-powered approach to ecommerce intelligence.”
In an email to customers on Monday, ShelfTrend wrote, “Due to eBay platform changes beyond our control, we will be forced to shutdown the ShelfTrend app from February 5th, 2025.”
Anojan Abel, cofounder of ShelfTrend, told EcommerceBytes, “eBay have decided to reduce access to Developer APIs we need to generate reports for our customers. We’ve asked for access but unfortunately it doesn’t look like they will be letting 3rd Parties continue to deliver marketplace insights to sellers.”
Abel said he had been expecting that development since eBay acquired research tool Terapeak.
In the company’s email to sellers, it told eBay sellers they could continue to access ShelfTrend until February 5, 2025. In addition, “You can stay updated on ShelfTrend AI updates at shelftrend.com and we will send relevant email updates to our subscribed recipients.”
It thanked sellers for their support, stating that ShelfTrend had helped over 70,000 ecommerce brands and sellers since 2016, “and we hope to serve you again when we launch ShelfTrend AI.” ShelfTrend customers can view FAQs on the ShelfTrend website.
ShelfTrend also issued a press release announcing the news in which Abel was quoted, “This marks the end of one chapter but the beginning of an exciting new journey. We’re using this opportunity to pivot and focus our efforts on ShelfTrend AI, a next-generation AI-powered application being designed to deliver insights to ecommerce sellers worldwide.”
