eBay advised sellers that the US Postal Service is no longer supporting receipt of any FedEx Ground Economy shipments – the service formerly known as FedEx SmartPost. Effective July 14, 2024, sellers should not drop off their FedEx shipment to a USPS location – otherwise, FedEx will not forward it and the package will be seized, eBay warned.
On its website, FedEx states that the service is a “cost-efficient shipping option for small and medium businesses” and says it’s “ideal for outbound residential deliveries and returns that are low-weight, low-value, and nonurgent.”
In 2019, FedEx had announced it was lessening its dependence on USPS by integrating FedEx SmartPost volume into standard operations and adding large package capabilities, which it said would enhance last-mile efficiency. At the time, it stated, “Nearly two million FedEx SmartPost packages that were previously given to the U.S. Postal Service for delivery to homes every day will be increasingly integrated into FedEx Ground operations and delivered by the same service providers currently handling FedEx Ground residential packages.”
And as we noted in April, the agreement between FedEx Express and USPS is set to expire on September 29, 2024.
In last week’s announcement, eBay wrote, “It’s important to always use the correct label, packaging and drop off location for each carrier.”
