Amazon.com announced plans for yet another hub in its distribution network – it will open a fifth Texas Fulfillment Center in San Marcos. It will join Schertz, Coppell, and Haslet in Texas locations hosting Amazon facilities, with the fourth under construction in Dallas. The San Marcos fulfillment center will store smaller customer items including books, electronics and toys.
The 855,000 square-foot Fulfillment Center will employ more than 1,000 full-time workers in permanent positions, Amazon said. The company currently employs more than 3,500 full-time associates in Texas.
The Coppell facility in Texas was recently featured in a piece by the Dallas Morning News, which included videos showing the robotics Amazon uses to move inventory around the 1 million square foot warehouse.
Amazon recently announced plans to open fulfillment centers in Minnesota, New Jersey, and Illinois in addition to the Dallas center, as well as two new warehouses in the UK, one at Bardon and one at Weybridge.
Amazon also announced earlier this month that it planned to open a sortation center in Wallingford, Connecticut. It will take items from the nearby Windsor Fulfillment Center and sort them in preparation for last-mile delivery.
