Some Sellers Say eBay Clothing Promotion Is a Poor Fit

eBay is running an invitation-only promotion in which sellers can list up to 500 auction listings in the Women’s Clothing category and pay no insertion fees, but some invited sellers reported a glitch.

Those who do receive an invitation must activate the offer before receiving the special rate, and only newly listed items apply. One seller who forwarded the invitation to EcommerceBytes said they were disappointed since they do not sell women’s clothing at all. Another seller posting on the eBay boards wrote, “What a useless promotion to give me unless I go to Goodwill on dollar day and buy a bunch of clothes. I usually get a promotion to list whatever I want.”

In another thread, sellers were just as unhappy. “How was this category picked for a promo by eBay. What about the rest of us that sell in the numerous other categories and could care less about women’s clothing?” Another responded, “And I thought that clothing was one of the categories where eBay said auctions don’t work well.”

Sellers who activate the offer and create listings in the Women’s Clothing (15724) category in the auction-style format or auction-style with Buy It Now format will pay no insertion fees for up to 500 listings during the promotion.

Only 7- and 10-day listing durations are included – and again, it does not apply to relisted items. All existing selling limits as well as category and item limits apply. Women’s Clothing is a sub-category of Clothing, Shoes & Accessories.

Some sellers ran into a glitch when they tried to take advantage of the promotion. A few sellers discussing the promotion on the eBay boards said they were able to list a few items, but were then charged 40 cents when they tried to list additional listings.

The promotion kicked off on Saturday, August 8 and it runs through August 31, 2015. All other fees apply, see eBay website for details and restrictions.
