Amazon is building a new fulfillment center in Minnesota. The 1 million-square-foot warehouse will be located in Shakopee. While the facility will include innovative technologies including Amazon Robotics, the company said it will employ 1,000 full-time workers at the site when it opens.
At the new facility, employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and consumer goods.
This is the third fulfillment center Amazon announced this year to be opened in the U.S. In June, Amazon announced plans to open a 500,000 square-foot fulfillment center in Dallas, Texas, also for the processing of smaller items.
And in May, Amazon announced plans to open a new 1 million square-foot fulfillment center in Carteret, New Jersey.
Amazon also announced plans to build a new fulfillment center in the UK in Dunstable, north of London, making it the ninth in the UK.
