New Promotion Shows eBay Wants Listings to Stick Around

Remember when there was a sense of urgency when finding items on eBay? It’s becoming apparent that current management now prefers longer duration, fixed-price listings rather than short-duration auctions, as evidenced by its May 1st fee changes. A current seller promotion eBay is running is further evidence, providing incentives for sellers to list 30-day listings.

Sellers invited to participate can list up to 2,000 fixed-price listings and pay no insertion fees. There are plenty of restrictions, including the requirement that listings be 30-day duration. They must also be fresh – relists are excluded from the sale.

Sellers must also activate the promotion before getting the free listings, and the usual fine print applies – selling limits apply.

One reader told us she didn’t actually receive an invitation to the promotion, but it showed up in the Seller Summary section of her account, and some sellers said they were disappointed the promotion excluded auctions.

The promotion kicked off on May 7 and runs through May 12th. All other fees apply, see eBay website for details and restrictions.
