The visual appeal of the internet impacted users as sites opted to make images an even greater part of their layout. The grid-like dominant display of Pinterest, for example, now has its look and feel imitated in a lot of places online.
But these are static two-dimensional images, differentiated in how far a visitor can zoom in on the display. We have seen ecommerce sites offer multiple product views to satisfy curious shoppers – look no farther than a typical Amazon shoe page.
Some sites have experimented with 360 views, generally enabled view browser plug-ins that allow the viewer to turn an item all the way around. If RotaryView has its way, there will be more 360 degree displays coming to shoppers online.
RotaryView’s technology means there’s no plug-in or browser dependency for someone to see an all-around product view. The company also dropped the barrier to entry for these displays – one option offers 30,000 monthly RotaryView ad-branded exposures for free, while Silver ($14.90/month) and Gold ($69/month) subscription levels increase the exposures and reduce or remove the branding.
We’ll also note here that images made available via the free plan are shared in RotaryView’s collection; the Gold plan keeps those 360 images private for use only by the subscriber’s sites.
The company has also taken advantage of the massive presence of camera-equipped smartphones with people. Mobile apps for Android and iOS give ecommerce pros who only have phone cameras the ability to create RotaryView imagery. People equipped with better cameras and the right equipment can make higher quality images.
For sellers who want to display their 360 images on places like Facebook and drive conversions (and possibly reduce returns), RotaryView pictures can be setup with a link to send a click on the image to the targeted sales page.
The motion of a 360 image is eye-catching. Online sellers who deliver these views to customers will want to review their landing page copy and their cross-sell/upsell promotions, in order to better retain those visitors and motivate them into a conversion behavior.
