The USPS hired Bill Fraine to align its commercial strategy with its network transformation changes, which is a controversial part of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s Delivering for America plan.
Fraine was former president of GXO Logistics’ supply chain division when DeJoy was Chief Executive of the division. Now as Vice President of Business and Commercial Initiatives for the USPS, Fraine once again reports directly to his former boss.
“Bill brings extensive sales, operations and business development experience to this position, which will guide how we sell and integrate innovative solutions into our new transportation and processing network,” DeJoy wrote in a memo announcing the appointment.
Fraine started his career as a front-line employee in customer service, sales and operations at FedEx. He spent more than 20 years there in a variety of leadership roles, including senior vice president of sales.
The Postmaster General’s ties to GXO Logistics has come under scrutiny since his appointment to head the Postal Service. DeJoy sold his trucking business New Breed Logistics that he had owned for over 30 years to GXO Logistics in 2014. A year after DeJoy was named to head the Postal Service, the Washington Post published an article that claimed he maintained financial ties to GXO Logistics, even as the USPS awarded it a new $120 million contract in 2021.
Postmaster General DeJoy has been battling establishment thinking as he seeks to transform the Postal Service, and he has openly attacked its regulator the Postal Regulatory Commission. Like DeJoy, Fraine may also find it challenging to account not to shareholders, but to regulators – and lawmakers as well.
We all know how well Fedex works, overage charges and all. I still don’t know how Dejoy still has a job with all double dipping he’s doing but does explain the reason why the USPS is going down the drain.
If you want to know how deJoy was nominated for his position, follow the money. He & his wife have been donors to Trump’s Victory Fund for years. He is the first in his office with no previous USPS background. although, he did own a trucking company, which he has now sold.
I’ve actually dealt with USPS since 1981 and can honestly say until USPS can get some accountability and business mindset in their operation and staff, they can streamline all the want and nothing will change. Not one person or department in USPS is able to resolve an issue and if they are eager and try the are driven to joint the masses that won’t. As such it is a pass things off to other departments, shrug of shoulder operation. If my business were run like this, we would not be in business. It is a retirement club where all one needs to do to get paid is enter their time, and quite honestly serving their clients is last on the list. As a clerk once said to us about a missing parcel question, “We are a service oriented organization and we don’t have to provide service” which is so very typical of the mindset these days. I laugh honestly when I hear the claim “Delivering for America”
No different than private sector clowns parroting responsibility to (rich foreign) shareholders over the business, customers, employees, or anybody else. Gee I wonder why our country is going down the drain?
