Etsy Adds a New Way to Discount Items

Etsy is offering sellers a new way to discount items to appeal to buyers. Etsy sellers noticed the new feature last week that lets them send offers to "interested shoppers." In a Reddit thread on June 5, 2026, a seller posted a screenshot and asked "Anyone know who exactly gets this offer? it appears to be a new feature (separate from Abandoned Cart) and it's a bit unclear to me what exactly "early interest" is!"

"Ugh god it's turning into Depop around here," one seller replied. Another seller said they would be unlikely to use the feature especially if shoppers could make counteroffers over concerns it would lead to lowball offers.

This week, Etsy announced the feature to sellers, saying the new targeted offers could help them "reach more interested shoppers earlier in their buying journey" and said that, on average, sellers using this offer could reach two times more potential buyers than with other targeted offers alone.

It answered the question sellers in the Reddit thread were wondering when it wrote, "Etsy determines interested shoppers by using a number of factors, including how often and how recently they've viewed your listings. Because these shoppers are already considering your items, a timely offer can help encourage purchases without having to run a shop-wide sale."

Offers on rival marketplace eBay are popular with sellers, but do they contribute to a race-to-the-bottom environment that encourages lowball offers? Do such features belong on a marketplace like Etsy?

Poshmark is also notorious for low-ball offers. (Among other things going on at Poshmark such as their algorithm change and their practice of deactivating listings. If you are logging in every day and adding listings not listing should be deactivated) I have no time for that. My price is my price. No one is going to take your $10.00 for an item that you paid more than $50.00 for.

Why can't these ecommerce sites see that it also affects their profits? Are they that desperate?
