One Way USPS Proposes to Hike Fees in July

USPS wants to impose a new requirement that could result in significant fees for online sellers if they don't take action beginning in July. The new rule would require shippers to include accurate dimensions (length, width, and height) for all parcels, otherwise be subject to its USPS Dimension Noncompliance Fee.

USPS started charging a "Dimension Noncompliance Fee" in April of 2022, which requires accurate dimensions on packages that exceed 1 cubic foot (or 22 inches in length) for the following classes, according to the USPS website:

- Priority Mail Express (Commercial)
- Priority Mail (Commercial)
- Parcel Select Destination Entry
- USPS Ground Advantage (Commercial)
- USPS Connect Local

The new rule would extend that requirement to packages no matter the size, but shippers would not have to provide dimensions for Flat Rate or USPS Returns.

The current surcharge for noncompliance is currently set at $1.50. USPS has not yet announced July 2026 rates (expect them sometime in May), so it's possible the noncompliance fee could change.

If approved, the new fee would take effect on July 12, 2026. Sellers can provide feedback by submitting comments by mail or email on or before February 9, 2026 (comments you submit are available for public viewing) - see the notice in the Federal Register for more information.

Already have done that for 26 years, thus no up charges except one UPS package, whichI easily won.
