Have You Tried eBay's New Magical Listing Flow?

By: Ina Steiner

An eBay executive recently posted that AI is changing the game for new sellers and went so far as to recommend people create a brand new account just so they could experience it.

Blair Ethington eBay Vice President of Buyer, Seller & C2C, said on Friday, "I can't disclose numbers, and it's weird for me to say this, but everyone might just want to create a new eBay account so they can check out the new magical listing flow.

"What I can say is this: we've infused new agentic AI capabilities directly into the experience to radically simplify how sellers create listings: less effort, more intelligence, and dare I say...a little magic."

Ethington was following eBay CEO Jamie Iannone's lead by posting on LinkedIn instead of publishing a post on the eBay corporate blog or eBay seller announcement board. She published the following quotes from sellers who used the new tool:

- "Wow, that felt like magic"

- "Man I'm at a loss for words, for real, I honestly can't think of how to explain how awesome of an experience you gave me setting up and making sure I was happy with everything. Thank You!"

- "I'll be selling a lot more on eBay. Never knew it was this easy."

She said that was the kind of feedback product leaders live for - "Super proud of my team for building the best selling experience! Check it out (or listen to eBay's Q4 earnings call to learn more)," she wrote.

Other executives replied to her post. eBay's VP & Global Head of Product for eBay Services Avritti Khandurie Mittal commented, "Raising the bar on creating magical experiences."

eBay's Vice President of Platform Governance, Compliance & End-to-End Regulatory Karin Schwab commented, "The new experience is truly magical and a game changer."

And eBay Senior Design Manager David Chavez commented, "So proud of this work and the team behind it!"

Ethington's post comes two-and-a-half years after eBay officially launched its magical listing tool in 2023, part of Iannone's tech-led reimagination to reinvigorate the marketplace. Friday's post indicates sellers must have a new account to experience the new flow - let us know if you've tried the tool and what you think of it.

Ina will probably ban me ... but what the heck .... I think these people (eBay) are on crack ...STRONG stuff

Selling ISNT magic
Buying ISNT magic

How Jaime got this job however IS magic, as is this dope in the article above

We dont need AI, we dont need advertising, we dont need ppc.

We need organic sales and we need the mafia to get its fingers off the scale

Dont make any new accounts, dont pay eBay to do the job its supposed to do already (show your listings), dont (if you can) use eBay postage, DONT think eBay protects you (seller protection aka the Bigfoot of ecommerce) and DONT think eBay cares about you or your company or your funds.

Keep your head low, grind and make sales DESPITE eBays best attempts to reach into your pocket

"- "Man I'm at a loss for words, for real, I honestly can't think of how to explain how awesome of an experience you gave me setting up and making sure I was happy with everything. Thank You!"  SAID NO ONE EVER.

These people seriously need heavy therapy. They have collectively lost their minds. All we want to do is Buy & Sell on Ebay - it's that simple. There is no such thing as MAGIC. People who use Ebay were told all these years by Ebay to setup your Store, ship on time, ship properly, maintain your feedback and everything will be fine - keep your brand up.

Now they want us to start a new account? You know why? When you start another account now you have to go through all these hoops to verify who you are supposedly, but that's not what it really is all about - it's about holding your funds for a certain amount of time so Ebay can earn interest off of the collective total in the account in some foreign country until they believe you are who you say you are. Ignore the fact that you have had an account in good standing for all these previous years - it means nothing in Ebay's eyes.

I have an account. Ive had the account for over 23 years and now Ebay wants me to start over from scratch? Give me a break - everyone in San Jose needs to be drug tested - get out the cups. These people are out of their minds. The really sad thing is the State gave all of them a Drivers License. My God.

I cannot believe that shareholders still believe in this company and buy Ebay's stock. This is all a bunch of gobbledygook.

The whole plan is a play to get more seller accounts on eBay to justify they are doing their job.
They are in trouble and they know it and that is why they keep sending me an email all the time trying to get me to list again by offering me a $50 coupon when I sell an item for $10 or more.

eBay's promotion of a new “magical” AI listing flow—especially the suggestion that people create a brand-new account to try it—could signal a shift toward prioritizing new sellers over established ones. Could new accounts using the AI listing experience receive algorithmic advantages in search visibility or onboarding, potentially putting long-time sellers at a disadvantage? It also raises compliance questions, since eBay traditionally discourages multiple seller accounts, making the idea of creating a new one just to access certain features confusing or risky.

Another concern is that AI-driven listing tools could dramatically lower the barrier to selling, which might flood the marketplace with new listings and increase competition. If AI generates titles, descriptions, and item specifics automatically, could it also standardize listings, reduce control over SEO and listing strategies, and possibly lead to lower quality or inaccurate product details? Is this a sign that eBay is focusing on attracting casual or first-time sellers, which could reshape how the marketplace works for experienced sellers who rely on more advanced tools and established reputations.

I'll pass.I have seen what new "magic" things have done without the kinks worked out.....spellcheck witch was wrong and kept changing my listing titles. Their "catalog" witch automatically kept changing my category I sell in, and I had to list in 2 categories for years, because I just couldn't get it to stay in the correct category.

A new problem is I could not upload a return label from shipstation to ebay. It just kept coming up as error. So I just started purchasing them on ebay. Now I see they are overcharging for a return label. The other day they charged $7 ( or tried to) for the same label I paid $5.32 for on shipstation. No mistake...weight was the same, address was the same. Glitch in the system, or purposely broke? I guess I can call ebay, but I'm sure they will try to talk me into circles. And when I lay it out in unmistakable terms they will just say they have to look into it, and get back to me in 72 hours. That 72 hours will be stuck in a time warp and they will never get back to me. For now I have to convert a label from PDF to JPG and message it to the buyer. I am not being bilked for a label. Damn this return nonsense is a cash cow for ebay!!!

Here's another thought.  If there AI is so magical, why does one need a new account to use it?  Can it not be integrated into existing accounts, cutting through the spit and duct tape that is holding the creaking eBay hull together?  Or, would a new account with magical AI features give eBay access to who knows what that AI would pull from a user's computer?

It’s too bad eBay didn’t use their magic wands to ACTUALLY ‘simplify’ their glitch infested, overly burdensome and illogical listing process.

Instead they turned the keys to that jalopy of a venue over to the infant that is today’s AI, and had their myopically ‘visionary’ clown car filled cSuite cult genuflect and slaver over it like they were themselves infected with some kind of eBay derangement syndrome.

It’s smoke and mirrors over substance.  Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain Dorothy.

Remember, the Golden Rule at Ebay is your money is their money. This is all about money, pure and simple. There is no reason one must sing up with a new account to use any feature on Ebay. Can't you just feel their hands in your pockets right now?

I had a 27 year account until a few weeks ago and then they suddenly demanded receipts for all items sold and listed during last 60 days.

They suspended the account after I told them where they could stick that request.

An investigator for my state attorney's office is been assigned to the case.

The eBay official from their so called Ethics division has already tried to change their story, trying to claim the account was suspended due to other accounts.

Like many other eBay users I have other eBay accounts for buying. I've also used guest account to purchase items. Common practice since its not a good idea to use your selling account for buying as sooner or later you will buy from a bad seller and when you leave negative feedback or report them they will retaliate against your seller account.

Also common to have one or more accounts solely for posting on eBay forums. When you criticize eBay on the forums they ban that eBay account from accessing the forums.

Not a single buying account has been used for fraud.

Every attempt to setup a second seller account has been blocked. The closest was one on which over 100 items were listed and after selling one item, but before it the item was even shipped, they froze payments on the account due to what they claimed was lack of selling experience. They also cancelled all the other listings. Instead of going through the headache I refunded the buyer, told the buyer the situation, and had them buy the item through my regular selling account.

No customers have been ripped off. Not a single chargeback in 27 years.

They want to get rid of my account because I've been highly critical of eBay.

They want newbs who know nothing about the historical record of eBay's abuse against its customers.

They want newbs who will gladly hand over a copy of their photo i.d. and other personal information for a empty promises by eBay.

eBay sent me this “ Learn about updates to help you sell confidently and efficiently.”

THAT must be the new magic, since before - selling on eBay was fraught with fraud, theft and abuse

Seasoned sellers know NOTHING there’s nothing on eBay that you can be confident about ….. ever except them finding some way to hurt you.

"Have You Tried eBay's New Magical Listing Flow?"

LOL no, and I havent tried sticking my face in a blender, standing out in traffic, purposely getting sick with ebola or cuddling a jelly fish .... whats the point?

The article above (not blaming it since eBay cant quantify anything) gives no specific details on what makes ANY part of it "magical" ....

I AM however MAGICALLY waiting for sales to return to early 2000's levels - NOW THAT WOULD BE QUITE A TRICK!

Why not use that "magic" to just show peoples listings! That's it, just show listings! We don't need anything else. Just show the listings!!

LOL...I already have plenty of accounts.

The magic rule that has helped me to survive ebay without major stress since 1998 is that I NEVER try anything that ebay suggests I try (of course, until I am forced to comply).

How about applying your magic AI to your search engine so when I search for an item using keywords in Titles Only, and excluding other keywords, I don't get tons of results that do not contain said keywords and do contain excluded keywords? Is that too much to ask from your magic AI?

right i should trash my account with 10K positives and start over again.  i've seen what AI does to descriptions and it doesn't encourage me to try anything else even related to it.
