eBay Adds Shipping Reminders, Updates VeRO Portal

eBay will begin sending sellers shipping reminders and delivery updates, it announced on Thursday as part of the September Seller Update:

"A day after an order's promised handling time, you'll get an extra nudge to send it out. We'll send these reminders via email and notify you through the eBay app if you have it.

"Once you get your shipping label, you can manually add the tracking number to the order, or have it added automatically when you use eBay Labels.

"After that, you'll get two more notifications: one confirming the item has been shipped and is on its way to the buyer, and another once it's been delivered."

eBay also said in the Seller Update announcement that it had begun providing personalized pricing recommendations in the eBay app "helping you boost visibility, make smarter pricing decisions, and manage your business more effectively." While sellers can "snooze" the optional recommendations for a few days, there's no option to turn them off permanently, as eBay believes "they offer valuable insights to help you sell faster."

It won't end with pricing recommendations - eBay said it was also working on adding other personalized recommendations in the coming months.

eBay reminded sellers of a new protection policy it had announced at its summer eBay Open conference. "Previously, if we approved a buyer's INR claim, you would have to refund the money and would be out of a product. Now, if you use eBay labels and ship your items on time, we'll reimburse you once we detect delivery." When eBay had announced the policy, sellers wanted to know why it wouldn't apply to all items where sellers had uploaded tracking, no matter which shipping service provided they used.

eBay also announced it has launched a new verified rights portal (known as VeRO) and enhanced the program to help sellers avoid and report intellectual property violations. "Whether you're listing new items, resolving a removal, or just staying up to date on eBay's policies, understanding intellectual property (IP) is key for any seller. We've updated our Help and Seller Center pages with tools and tips to protect your business from potential violations, from using brand names correctly to the importance of only listing authentic products."

eBay also reminded sellers that its new used-fashion conditions had gone live and advised sellers to check their listings. "If you didn't update the condition on your current pre-loved fashion listings before August 18, your listings will automatically be set to "Pre-owned: Good".

eBay told sellers that if a buyer wants to return a used fashion item because the condition wasn't as expected, eBay would offer temporary protections for "Item not as described" return requests. "This helps avoid a change in your service metric rating to "Very High." Please continue to handle any returns to avoid a "case closed without seller resolution" label."

"If a shipment is delayed, buyers can submit a claim if they don’t receive their item on time. If this claim is approved, buyers will receive a refund, even if you shipped on time. This can impact your seller metrics."

EVEN IF YOU SHIPPED ON TIME !?!?!?!?!

Why would you get a defect or anything else if you shipped it ON TIME?

What kind of NEW crookedness is this? DO I work for UPS,USPS, FED EX? Can I control other people?

"We’re always looking for ways to enhance our support and protection for you and improve your selling experiences"

NO YOU ARENT - LIARS!

"eBay, as required by law, gives brands, manufacturers, and rights owners control over how these assets are used by allowing them or their representatives to report listings they believe infringe on their IP rights."

NOT TRUE. Both The Lanham Act, and The First Sale Doctrine state that unless you are copying their output (their words or pics) The first-sale doctrine under copyright law, states that once a copyright owner has sold a copy of their work, they lose the right to control its further distribution. In practice, this means:

You can resell tangible items, such as books, CDs, DVDs, or video games, that you bought lawfully.

All this means is eBay needs more cash, and will be giving VERO "participants" more power to hurt small sellers "just because they dont want you selling their goods on the platform"

As usual, eBay lies, continues to lie, cheat and abuse its sellers.

None of us made Pan Am inspired products, none of us made fake Tiffany items and none of us were sued for making fraudulent smog devices.

GUESS WHO WAS?

"or have it added automatically when you use eBay Labels."

The last time I checked PirateShip and other third party label providers where you can import eBay orders via eBay's API also automatically upload tracking numbers to eBay.

So it eBay lying here by omission so as to convince you you must use eBay labels or are going to stop these third party labels providers from uploading tracking numbers automatically any longer?

"it had begun providing personalized pricing recommendations in the eBay app 'helping you boost visibility, make smarter pricing decisions, and manage your business more effectively.'"

If you are using eBay's app to list items you are using the slowest way to list items! Desktop listing software like GarageSale has been the fastest way to list since 1998 and also the most secure since you retain copies of all your listings and templates on your computer. LOL, is the this the type of idiotic advice we can expect from Advisor Clinics?

"from using brand names correctly to the importance of only listing authentic products."

eBay is missing the point! Most IP product violations do not involve counterfeit goods. eBay there are proper uses for brand names.

You do not have the right to reproduce any intellectual property in your photos or text within your listings. The two most common IP violated are trademarks and copyrights. Under certain circumstances you could probably also violate patents.

Brand names, slogans, product names can be trademarked. Any text and / or graphics on a product can be covered by copyrights. If all IP owners were to enforce their IP rights eBay could only allow sellers authorized to recreate the IP to sell. eBay only exists because most do not care to spend company resources to pursue the matter.

Yes you can, but what you can't do is use intellectual property without the owner's permission.

If the item you are are selling has a trademarked brand name on it you can't reproduce that brand name in your listing's text or photos without the owner's permission. The same for trademarked company names or slogans used by the company. The same for illustrations, text and other copyrighted materials on the item, its packaging, its manual and so forth.

Etc

You don’t need permission to use the word Coke or use a self taken pic of a Coke product in order to sell it.

What you can’t do is use their pics, or wholesale copy content from their website

It’s called Fair Use

How could you ever sell anything if you can’t describe the item by name or list its properties???

Companies use it incorrectly (with eBay turning a blind eye on purpose) to remove honest sellers they don’t want selling their items online. That in and of itself is an abuse of the DMCA law
