eBay killed its Education Specialist program in 2016, which trained sellers to become coaches who could then market their services to would-be sellers. Since then, eBay has offered some educational programs directly to sellers, but usually on an invitation-only basis.
This week, eBay announced it is making available in-house advisors who can offer tailored guidance to sellers during free, 45-minute clinics. The one-on-one advice is personalized for sellers and can focus on a variety of topics including selling basics; growth strategies; and seller standards.
What's different about this program is that it's not restricted to invitation-only - any seller who meets the criteria can proactively sign up.
According to eBay's September 3, 2025
announcement: "Each clinic session is led by one of our in-house Marketplace Advisors and runs for 45 minutes. We know one session alone often isn't enough time to cover everything, which is why eligible business sellers are entitled to three sessions per year, with the program ideally suited for those with under $100,000 GMV in the past 12 months."
- Are registered on eBay.com (Site);
- Are physically based in the United States; and
- Have delivered a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV)* of less than $100,000 on eBay within the 12-month period before their first appointment.
Eligible sellers may book up to 3 appointments every 12 months, and sellers must use their eBay business account to register for Seller Clinics.
eBay also included a disclosure that any guidance provided during Seller Clinics is for general informational purposes only and should not be considered professional business, tax, or legal advice.
As we
reported in July, since at least as far back as January, sellers have been receiving invitations to participate in eBay's "Pro Seller" program, which appeared to be a new name for what had been called the eBay "Growth Advisor" program.
A job description for Growth Advisors had described the program as offering a "partnership" with sellers "including the world's top brands." But with the new clinics, sellers are not partnered with the same advisor should they choose to participate in more than one session.
Is the opportunity to speak with one of eBay's in-house Marketplace Advisors worthwhile? Would seeing advisors' backgrounds ahead of time help sellers assess whether a clinic session would be helpful? What kind of educational support would you like to see from marketplaces like eBay?
