eBay invited sellers to ask questions and make suggestions during last week's quarterly virtual Check-In, and sellers were happy to comply. Visibility was one of numerous topics they touched on, from questions about social media to exposure in eBay search results.
One seller asked if eBay was going to promote sellers' listings on social media platform BlueSky. A moderator said they hadn't heard whether eBay planned to or not, adding that the company was always pushing for more visibility for sellers' listings.
eBay recently began testing an integration with Facebook Marketplace, and some sellers had questions. Chuck Van Pelt, who leads eBay seller advocacy, responded, telling sellers they do not need a Facebook account in order for their items to be listed through the eBay-Facebook partnership. But he noted that sellers can post their items to their own Facebook feed using the social sharing tools available on the Seller Hub under Marketing.
Visibility in eBay's own search engine was also discussed, with one seller saying they worried about buyers giving up searching "as the results are not accurate or helpful" due to "so much noise" in search results.
Another seller cited an example of that "noise," explaining that when she searches eBay for a small white short-sleeve shirt, eBay search doesn't isolate results to short-sleeve, white shirts. "The search used to be so accurate now it is so off and incorrect. Will this be fixed," they asked.
One seller wondered if there was a way for buyers to search for storefronts. A moderator replied:
"Within the eBay search bar, you can type in the eBay store name and often times it will populate a link to the store name being searched for. There are also marketing tools available to help drive awareness to store fronts via Promoted Stores."
Another moderator explained:
"eBay search is based on username rather than store name. To search for a seller's eBay store, folks can navigate to the advanced search, click "By Seller", check "Only show items from," enter the seller's user ID, and then click "Search.""
One seller asked if eBay would bring back the "Item ending today" sort option, stating they did not understand why eBay got rid of that feature.
Some sellers said they were bothered by the fact that when shoppers did land on their listings, eBay displayed competing listings too prominently. "Why does eBay put ads next to our items for sale," one seller asked.
Another seller said it was frustrating that after their hard work, eBay directed sellers away from their listing to someone else's.
Sellers weighed in on other issues and made suggestions during the
