eBay Glitch Prevents Sellers from Uploading Photos

eBay sellers are unable to upload photos Sunday morning, August 9, 2026. A reader told us he spent 30 minutes on the phone with customer service only to be finally told it is a known problem. "There is no notice posted anywhere so sellers have to figure this out on their own," the seller told us.

Sellers themselves are reporting the problem in numerous threads on the eBay Technical Issues board:

Photo upload: Photo upload is not working. Every photo comes with an error. You have to keep trying over and over to get one or two photos uploaded.

Cannot upload photos!

photo upload errors: Photos not uploading for me either. It works on the phone though. Tried several laptops and different networks.

Uploading photo error: Is anyone else having issues uploading photos for their listings. I have been selling since 2006 and this morning I cannot upload any photos, old one or new ones. Below is the error message I keep getting. Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you, Lori  

Can't Upload auction photos this morning: I can't upload photos this morning. Keeps saying "1 photo failed to upload. Remove photo with errors" I tried chrome and edge and it is the same. Has anyone else been having this issue? Hopefully it will be resolved to I can post my new listings

Can not upload pictures: Can not upload pictures! I'm gonna step away and come back in an hour. I'll do a load of laundry :)

Photos not uploading: Many users are complaining about this all morning, it's been a debilitating problem for hours, come on!

PHOTOS NOT UPLOADING AUGUST 9, SUNDAY MORNING: None of my pictures will upload to create new listings. I have tried everything this morning.

Sellers have also been reporting the problem on Down Detector since 6:30 am Eastern.

The issue highlights the fact sellers work all hours, 7 days a week - and the fact that by not reporting technical issues in a timely manner, eBay costs sellers time and stress as they look to see if they are the only ones experiencing problems.

Learned that one in Kindergarten.  Apparently eBay, collectively, isn’t ‘educated’ that much though.

Yo, eBay.  Minimum competency for unleashing any kind of digital junk into the void that requires the user to compensate the creator involves having the foresight to anticipate the potential for such kinds of errors and a plan for mitigating it.  Especially if it is of a ‘mission critical’ nature.  Such as this one.

It would be SO easy to incorporate a toggled, flexibly textual rolling banner on any site landing page to at LEAST announce the existence of any “known problem”.

Assuming of course, such a characterization isn’t a liar liar pants on fire thing - cuz, you know, that candlestick in the rhyme is lit.   🔥

Why would you be manually uploading photos in the first place?

Creating listings using eBay's listing from, sell similar or eBay app is way too slow to use. Its also not secure as you have no backups for your listings and templates.

If I had sit there and create listings one at a time using any of these methods I would not have sold anything on eBay.

A desktop application like GarageSale (Apple computers only) bypasses eBay's webpage interface by uploading listings using eBay's API. Since everything is stores in GargeSale's database you have a backup for everything encase eBay decides to loose it. You can create a backup of this database on a external hard drive connected via a drive dock encase something goes wrong with your computer. Of course you should be saving a backup of your main OS drive to a external drive anyway.

I used desktop software since 2000 when eBay's API was released. Of course eBay did not create it - it was a third party company that leased it back to eBay. eBay tried to pass on this cost to developers, thus killing off a early Apple compatible application called A.I.D. This left TurboLister as the only option, which I an on one of my Apple G4 computer which was able to run Mac X, Mac Classic and Windows XP at the same time via emulation. GarageSale came out in 2005 and I have used anything.

I am not a total fanboy of GarageSale; however, as I heavily criticized their move to a subscription model versus one supported by upgrade licenses. You can only list 50 items a month unless you pay $14.95 a month, which makes no sense considering someone without a store gets 250 listing per month without any insertion fees. They could sell more licenses if they do not try to blackmail users into paying the $14.95 subscription in order to use the 250 listings per month. Considering the low sell through rate of slow moving items its not worth paying the $14.95.
