Facility Powering eBay Consignment Sold to Rival

eBay Consignment now displays an error page after Poshmark acquired the "dedicated operational facilities of Linda's Stuff" - the company that powered eBay's consignment service launched in 2023. The outage indicates the acquisition of its key partner came as a surprise to eBay.

Online marketplace Poshmark announced the acquisition on August 3, 2026. But as of August 15, we've seen no announcement from eBay about the loss of its consignment partner that was founded by longtime eBay seller Linda Lightman, who launched Linda's Stuff out of her home in 2000.

eBay CEO Jamie Iannone interviewed Lightman in 2024, writing in a LinkedIn post, "Linda isn't just an eBay success story - she's also a key partner. With her help, we recently launched a new consignment program that gives people direct access to expert sellers who will list and sell their designer handbags and apparel on their behalf."

eBay's decision to rely on a third-party company rather than acquiring or building its own service now looks short-sighted, especially as it has been prioritizing not only fashion and "recommerce" - but live-streaming shopping as well.

Lightman posted on her social media accounts that she was transitioning her live-streaming fashion sales from eBay Live to Poshmark. "After 25 amazing, incredible years on eBay, we have moved houses. We are now on Poshmark," she told followers on Instagram.

Her son Max Lightman gave a presentation at ReCon NYC in April about live commerce in resale, something he said Linda's Stuff had started doing 3 years ago. "The short version: we went from 1 show per week to 23, and live grew from 3% to 44% of our total revenue," he wrote in a post on LinkedIn. "It's been one of the most exciting and challenging pivots we've made at Linda's Stuff."

On the now-inaccessible eBay Consignment site, eBay had boasted, "With over two decades of consignment experience, our partner has extensive fashion industry knowledge. They'll handle researching, photographing, pricing, and listing your items to ensure you get the most competitive value."

A FAQ on the page explained: "eBay has partnered with long-time eBay seller, Linda's Stuff, to ensure a trusted and seamless process for customers throughout the consignment journey. Linda's Stuff has nearly two decades of experience in the consignment industry, and has a state-of-the-art warehouse and facility equipped to handle your consigned items from start to finish. To ensure the safety and proper care of your items, all of the shipping labels we provide are insured for the value of the items, and your items will be carefully handled and stored throughout the photographing and selling process."

Consignment selling has been a part of eBay from almost the beginning, with eBay first formalizing the format through the Trading Assistant program, which it shuttered in 2013. It replaced it with a program called eBay Valet in 2014, which depended on two companies  (ModusLink and Ingram Micro Logistics) instead of the army of Trading Assistant sellers that preceded it. eBay ended the Valet program in 2018

Will the loss of eBay Consignment help individual consignment sellers on eBay, however temporary? And with the loss of Linda's Stuff, will eBay be more receptive to individual fashion sellers who want to livestream on its Live platform?

That livestream channel that pops up in a window on my main eBay page (if I log in rather than jump directly to a bookmarked page) has always left me cold. There's nothing professional-looking about it: there's always some mope waving a handbag at me or sticking a watch into the camera. It looks like a portal to the discount basement area of eBay.

Poshmark seems intent on obliterating their small closet sellers with junk dumpers like Linda's Stuff. Sad - it was a great shopping site, but there's nothing about Linda's that makes me want to shop there.

Side quest failed again Ebay. How about making your platform better rather than spending time and money chasing every shiny thing you see? :P

eBay trashed any credibility for supporting consigned item sales almost two decades ago.

Trading Assistant was an invaluable tool on a localized level.  Killing that also killed the half dozen or so chains of eBay specialized consignment sellers - all of which depended on fair trade being truly fair, for both parties.  After that though, crickets.  And that was before the onslaught of ever more restrictive policies, and ever bigger bites out of each seller’s britches.

Meanwhile, aforementioned forays into the arena lacked any kind of backing, received little promotion, and every other scheme eBay derived served to compete with the categories. Every reshuffle of the listings, annd their visibility.  Every push away feom flexibility annd choice into homogeneous robotic rigidity, every new guy category ‘refresh’ to bolster the latest desperate boardroom regurgitation.  And even those that remained were stifled.  They lost the buyer base for the eclectic at competitive value, who had no patience being told what they wanted instead of shown what they wanted..  And they wonder why now their ship is leaking.  .

Anyway, a true consignor takes all categories, assuming profitability*, and ensures both reasonable quality and authenticity.  They must, because it would be self-defeating not to.  But there’s no place for them here now.  Notwithstanding the loss of Linda’s, no doubt to a double whammy ship cost (to and from) impact to the remote consignment model.  Like, who saw that coming, right?

As for affordability now,* there was a time that a 60/40 split on a $60 minimum sale item would pay both fees and overhead for the effort.  After that, it was economy of scale.

But now?  That goose is cooked.  I understand they even tried to have the carcass delivered somewhere…

LOL

Jridge Flips channel has posted multiple videos on YouTube talking about the great deals at Goodwill. Yet all the items have Diverse Industries price stickers on them.

You can also tell that these are not Goodwill stores as the store shelving has commercially printed banner strips in the pricing channel slots to advertise various types of goods. No Goodwill wastes money on such items since most do not use such commercial shelving and most change up their inventory locations frequently.

In another video he bragged about checking the locked cases up by the Goodwill cash register for good buys. He walks from the store entrance right to the counter and films a bag in the case and then is later seen taking items out of the bag at home. The bag already had "SOLD" written across it as well as  Diverse Industries label. He did not just discover it inside the case as its already been sold and its not even Goodwill as claimed.

Never believe anything these so called experts tell you on Youtube.
