Suspend your skepticism for a moment. A seller told us he uses a virtual reality headset to be more efficient selling on eBay. While VR headsets aren't new, we had never seen a demonstration of how one could be used to do business tasks - and certainly not how it could be used to complete common online-selling tasks.
Troy Price, aka the Hourly Flipper, sent us a link to the video he posted on YouTube on Tuesday titled, "eBay Sellers Missing Out on This Meta Quest 3 Advantage."
The video is interesting to watch if you've never experienced newer VR technology. He captured two viewpoints, one with a camera pointing at him so you can see the actions he's taking in real life, as he simultaneously shows what he's seeing through the visor.
He told us, "Using the Quest 3, an eBay seller can replace a cluttered desk setup with a virtual workspace that includes multiple large screens floating in the air. Instead of one or two physical monitors, you can work with six or more virtual displays at once: eBay search results, active listings, Google Docs, YouTube for background audio, Facebook Marketplace research, and ChatGPT for listing descriptions - all visible simultaneously."
From watching the video, some tasks initially seemed like they might be easier to do with a keyboard and mouse in front of physical monitor(s). But the Visor gives you multiple ways to control the actions you take on the virtual screens - including using virtual OR real-life physical keyboards. And it's likely the more you grow accustomed to the interface, the more intuitive it would become. (Future generations may look at keyboards and mice like kids today look at rotary telephones, even if we're not there yet.)
As Troy said, having multiple screens open at once can be an advantage to an online seller. But it was especially interesting to see those screens travel around with him.
"You can leave your office, sit near natural light, and photograph inventory without breaking your workflow," he said. "Photos taken directly through the headset can sync automatically to Google Photos or Google Drive, making them instantly available for listings on your main computer."
It's a testament to Troy's production skills that he can convey what it's like to use the Meta Quest visor in a video. We're not recommending you run out and buy one (this article is not a product review). But seeing how an eBay seller used one to complete business tasks and not just play games was eye-opening.
Watch it below and tell us what you think, and if you use VR to complete online-selling tasks.
Maybe some of the ‘mechanics’ of the LISTING process can be shortcut, but the selling process? The only thing that can make selling ‘easier’ on eBay is eBay.
Can VR Headsets Make Selling on eBay Easier?

Taking photos inside a building with light coming in through one or ore windows is NOT natural light.
I take 99.99% of all photos outdoors in actual natural light, which is far superior to taking images inside even with a fancy light setup and / or photo both. Its also much more efficient and productive as I am not crammed into working in a limited space and moving one object at a time into the space to take photos. I can tell when eBay photos are taken inside based on their quality.
I place one or more six foot tables with foldout legs or a wider card table outside on the shaded side of a building or in the open if its overcast. I cover the table with a mat. I then fill the table(s) with many items and shoot all of them at the same. Take those items back inside and fill the tables again.
No grainy photos due lack or light. No blurry photos due to lack of light. No washed out areas due to too strong of light source. No strong shadows.
Take for instance a lot of 50 collectible plates. Fill the tables with 50 plates and shoot all the tops. Set camera down and flip over all the plates. Shoot all the bottoms. Stack plates in flat tray boxes with protective felt between them and put into inventory. Photos for 50 items done in a few minutes as opposed to placing the plates one at a time in a photo booth.

You can only visually focus and interact with one area of one screen at time. Your left eye can't be used to edit photos on one screen while your right is being used to assemble listings within GarageSale on another screen.
I use AppleScript on my Macintosh computer to automate tasks in various programs as well as show hide and and show different sets of applications. I create custom applications with Xojo. I dismiss a application to the dock. I can easily multi task with just two 24" NEC screens. I have can have PhotoMill bulk watermarking images, GarageSale uploading a bulk lot of listings, AppleScript app completing a bulk task, automatically forwarding emails in browser, a AppleScript app converting a slideshow to a mov file and much more all at the same time if you know to manage your time.
Searching for comps is easy. I type the title in a new GarageSale listing and double click a custom AppleScript which copies the title to the computer's clipboard and searches for the title on eBay within the computer's default browser. While the search is loading in the browse I paste the title into the description of the listing within GS and add any further details. Go back to the browser and select one of the item and use another AppleScript to extract the category number from the listing and paste it on the computer's clipboard which is then pasted into the same listing within GarageSale, thus saving having to manually navigate eBay's category tree.
I have serious doubts about the claims being made.
