Time to Revert to the PO as a Public Service?

Dear Ina,
You probably saw the article (in Federal News Network) - "USPS floats more financial aid from Congress as way to avoid running out of cash next year."

I kind of favor going back to the pre 1971 days of the Post Office Department - mail delivery and the PO as a public service.

Well if you really want to revert it back to what established by the Constitution then that means no home delivery. Originally mail was only sent from post office to post office. It was your job to make sure your mail was addressed to the nearest post office near you where you had to pick it up.

Limited cities, as local revenue warranted, began some home delivery in the 1860s.

There was no rural delivery unless of course you managed to live a post office to post mail route and was able to bribe a postal employee to stop at your home.

One of the oldest forms of political bribery was making contributions to a politician in exchange for securing a postmaster position.
