eBay Inks Deal with Golf's PGA Trade-In Network
By Ina Steiner
eBay has had a long association with PGA golfers over the past decade, and last week, eBay entered into a significant partnership with the PGA Trade-In Network that is designed to help golfers buy and sell used equipment on eBay.
Leigh Bader, a PGA pro who co-owns a Massachusetts golf course and became an early eBay PowerSeller, helped bring the network to eBay. In an interview in EcommerceBytes in 2003, Bader explained how he launched the PGA.com Value Guide, which offers trade-in and re-sale values for nearly all brands and models of golf clubs, powered by eBay historic sales data.
At the time, Bader explained his concept for the PGA Trade-In Network, comparing it to the back-end infrastructure that exists in the used-car marketplace.
Through an online storefront called The Pro Shops by PGA Trade-In Network + eBay, customers will have access to a full inventory of golf equipment - both new and used - that has been sourced and inspected by PGA Professionals. The storefront aggregates the full inventory of equipment and services available through the eBay marketplace that have been listed by PGA Professionals who are members of the PGA Trade-In Network and who've taken the "Play It On" pledge:
"By promising to "Play It On," PGA Professionals guarantee they'll do three things: encourage the trade-in and resale of golf equipment, use their expertise to ensure authenticity and integrity, and share their knowledge and passion for the game."
Links to the PGA Trade-In Network on eBay storefront will be part of the eBay search experience for buyers looking for golf equipment. The storefront will also be promoted on the PGA.com Value Guide, which is promoted on PGA.com, and numerous other golf sites.
Sellers who want their listings to automatically populate the PGA Trade-In Network-branded storefront on eBay must assure they are a PGA Member in good standing, confirm their PGA Trade-In Network membership, and take the "Play It On!" Pledge to provide their authorization to have items listed in the PGA Trade-In Network-branded storefront.
Items in the storefront range from clubs, bags and balls, to clothing, and shoes and accessories. Read more about the partnership on the eBay Green Team blog.
