Online Marketplace Atomic Mall Gets Closer to Launching Auctions

Atomic Mall is readying the launch of an auction format on its online marketplace. The company redesigned its Item View page with several enhancements and updates - including the addition of an Auction tab.

In May, founder Mike Shannon confirmed that Atomic Mall would launch auctions, but said they would be presented in a unique format, "not identical to eBay-style auctions."

The new View Item page has three tabs - a Buy Now tab, a "Make an Offer" tab that is integrated into the page instead of appearing as a popup window, and the Auction tab reserved for the launch of the auction format.

Atomic Mall launched in 2008 and currently has 49,203 members and 276,629 active listings. Shannon said the redesigned Item page is more attractive to buyers with easier access to key data.

New features include side tabs with Twitter and Facebook sharing tools and a more prominent "Fave" button. There is also a new "Buy it Fast" checkout option that bypasses the cart system and takes a shopper directly to the order form, with a quantity of one at the advertised buy price. Atomic Mall said 85% of transactions are for single-quantity items.

Atomic Mall also removed some javascript and obsolete code from the View Item page for faster load times.
