Etsy Reports 78% Increase in Sales in April, Traffic Growth Rate Slows
By Ina Steiner
Etsy sales were $22.4 million in April 2010, a 78% increase year-over-year. However, traffic to the site for the month grew by only 37% year-over-year, showing a steady decline in the rate of growth since January. Year-over-year pageview growth for Etsy was as follows:
Jan 2010 - 63%
Feb 2010 - 56%
March 2010 - 43%
April 2010 - 37%
Etsy's overall slowing growth rates show a maturing market, despite its efforts to expand in Europe. Its lack of traction in Asia has not gone unnoticed. This year, 1forME launched in South Korea offering hand-made, artists-produced goods, stating on its website, "1forME is Etsy of Korea."
