Amazon Launches Same-Day Delivery in Seven Cities
By Ina Steiner
Amazon.com announced the launch of "Local Express Delivery" that gives customers same-day delivery options in seven major cities including New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Seattle and Washington D.C. The service will be extended to Chicago, Indianapolis and Phoenix in the coming months.
Thousands of items are available for Local Express Delivery. Shipping fees vary by category, but Amazon Prime members pay a flat-rate of $5.99 per item for the service. (Amazon Prime is an annual membership program that gives customers fast shipping on millions of items for $79 a year.) Delivery cut-off times for Local Express Delivery are posted on each product's detail page.
Amazon also expanded Saturday Delivery options - items ordered before the cut-off time on Thursday using Two-Day Shipping will be delivered on Saturday instead of Monday.
