Email This Story to a Friend

eBay launched a new social-networking feature called eBay Neighborhoods, "a collection of micro-communities built around common interests and passions." eBay Neighborhoods draws content from blogs, Reviews and Guides and adds new Neighborhood-specific message boards, member-uploaded photos, and "social mapping tools to visualize the interconnections between people and their common interests."

One Neighborhood called Coffee Lovers features a gallery of listings for coffee related items as well as user-generated content, such as reviews of coffee makers and espresso machines, guides such as "Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines Buying Guide," and related eBay Blog posts. It also shows a gallery of photos from the My World pages of Neighborhood members and a discussion board.

Neighborhoods can be devoted to topics ranging from products, collectibles, movies and music, celebrities and more.

eBay said Neighborhoods "marks the latest step in a continuous effort to reshape commerce, delight its customers, and raise the expectations people have when they go online."
