eBay Sellers Are Still Facing Bank Verification Problems

By: Reader

Sponsored Link

Dear Ina,
I went onto eBay this morning with no problem. In fact, I have never had a problem with my eBay account. I have had an account with eBay before Meg Whitman was hired and before the company went public.

This afternoon I received an email from eBay stating that my account was frozen because they could not verify my bank account information.

Nothing has changed on my account or my bank's. I still live at the same address, same phone number, same name. My bank info has not changed. The bank is still located across the street from me, my routing number and account number is the same since I opened the account 17 years ago. My debit card is still the same when eBay started their crappy payment service and I supplied it to them, the name on the account is still the same.

Since I had to send in my info and verify it when eBay started their payments system, I was approved and none of it has changed. I have never been late with a payment on my eBay account 20+ years for fees or anything else. I have 100% score for shipping and tracking, .12% for returns and have no returns or disputes pending - I never have.

I just received a payout Tuesday from eBay and have been receiving payouts with no problem since their crappy payment system started - all to the same bank and account number since I opened the account at my bank 17 years ago.

My eBay account has now been suspended. In order to open my account again, I (and all other Sellers & Buyers) will have to do one of following three steps:

1). Log onto your account with eBay (the 3rd. party company they hired) on the log in page with you while you enter your user name and password at your bank so they can verify that is the bank you are logging into.

2). Receive 2 micro deposits in your account and then verify the amounts to eBay.

3). Send eBay a copy of your bank statement. This was sent to eBay, and verified, when all Sellers had to confirm who they were when eBay started their crappy payment system.

My account will be frozen until the company eBay hired to verify your information can verify your personal & bank information, which means eBay has given my personal information that eBay has to their 3rd. party, who was not identified during the process.

I thought this may be a phishing email but on my eBay account it stated my account was suspended until I verified my account info.

So I called eBay to verify. The eBay agent called me and confirmed all the email information and the information about the freezing of my funds from eBay was valid and I should not be worried, my funds would be available to me within 48 business hours when the info is verified.

I asked about the items that I had to send out that had already been sold and told the agent I needed the money for postage. The agent asked if there was a friend or family member I could borrow the money from as it would only be 48 hours until they could verify my info.

He also stated he saw on my account that I sent the required info into eBay and that I was all set. Today is Thursday and I can guarantee they wont be able to verify until next week due to the fact that it takes up to 48 business hours to verify the information.

I asked to speak with a supervisor, he refused, and stated this was all the info he had, that he was trained to handle these calls, and that was that. I asked if I could get someone from payments on the phone to talk too and he stated "Have a nice day and thank you for selling on eBay" then disconnected the call.

So, to all you Sellers, now it starts - the B.S. excuse that eBay has to freeze your account until you verify all your information. The rep also stated this happens periodically, from time to time, and I should expect this action 2 - 3 times a year.

Prior to being disconnected, I asked if there was a problem with my account and he stated "No, I see nothing on your account that is problem. eBay just needs to verify your info from time to time. I then asked if this applies to all Sellers on eBay and he stated "Yes, and Buyers also".

This is absolute nonsense. eBay is back to playing the same games with your money they did when they owned PayPal (Which I never had a problem like this at PayPal, 20+ with that account). I was also told I have to send all the items that Buyers paid for even though my money is frozen.

So, to all Sellers, here it comes - eBay delaying your money so they can earn that extra interest in their account. Funny how this just started to occur after SVB and Signature banks failed - I wonder how much money was tied up in an account for eBay at ether bank. To all you cheerleaders for eBay on this site, I hope you're happy now because you're going to get the same treatment, or maybe not?
Anonymous

PS: I got an additional message from eBay stating the reason they had to identify me was that I changed my banking information. I never changed my banking information, I am still at the same bank and all the information never changed, either on my side or the bank's side.

I've been selling on ebay since the 90s.

My current account has been registered and selling since Jun 14, 2005 and I've sold a bunch... I haven't sold anything in the last two years. I got paid with paypal.

Today, I listed an item to see what's changed. I had to submit a bank account, a driver's license, and it tells me it takes 2-7 business days to verify by 18 year old account that already has a significant sales history and great feedback.

I was told they don't accept CHIME as a bank account so I used my other account with another, more well known bank.

What's going on? It's like I'm a newbie fresh out of badoobie. If it's anything like the ebay of old I'm expecting major delays and excuses for not verifying and not getting my money ... but I'm out of pocket for shipping...

#ebaysucks! :)

Sorry to say that it is NOTHING like the eBay of old. If you thought delays and excuses were bad years ago, you will not be able to handle the current eBay.

Got the message at the bottom of this post.

My documents are clear and up to date.

Called customer service. Girl said it's because my account was ''Ken'' and license was ''Kenneth''. I update the account girl said it was fixed.

Got the same message below 10 minutes later.

2nd call said it was because my DL address did not match my Ebay address. I'm out of state listing items. He told me to either get a new license ( not happening, don't live here ) or change the address on ebay. So I change the ebay address. He says it's fixed.

Still betting 'blocked' error message on payments page:

''Your payouts are blocked while we review your account. This is a routine process to keep your account safe and takes up to 6 business days to complete. We’ll email you if we need more info. Learn more''

No real information.

Am I supposed to continue listing my Spring cleaning load or try facebook, or go as far as to sell using google shopping ads on my own site?

WTF is wrong with Ebay? Or is that rhetorical because, well, ebay.. ?

Now I'm going to cancel my listing until this is fixed so I am thinking I really will need to use a combo of facebook ads for larger things and my own site for smaller.

...... it was supposed to be easy, now it's just a pile of turd.

re uploaded license.

Thanks for working with us to verify your identity. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to complete the verification, and you’ll need to try again.

This can happen for a few reasons, for example if the picture of your ID is blurry, or it’s expired. We understand this must be frustrating, and are here to help.

Here’s what you need to do

Select Try again to confirm your information and upload an image of your government-issued photo ID.
Double-check that your account details match the information on your government-issued photo ID, and that it’s not expired.

After changing my account address to match my driver's license address, I was verified. I had to re-upload my DL using the link in the original 'verify account' email, not the link in the 'try again' email - ebay technical bug.

re-uploading the DL re-triggers the verification process despite the CSR claiming he restarted it. Verification seems to only take about 10 minutes, not days.

The red warning notice is now gone from my 'payments' link.

What amazes me, or doesn't, is the lack of cohesion in the site, the help files, and the email messages. It's difficult to know where ebay has moved information, or what I was even looking for.

To find out if you're verified, you don't have a 'status: verified' in your account, there's just a lack of a warning message in your account / payment settings. I'd think a message like that should be more global.

So, I'll relist the item I just deleted, and see if I get paid. ... fun times...

Timing is interesting
If anyone is holding your money and making a grab for your information rat them out to the people who can question them. search visa and MasterCard merchant acquiring bank pci dss compliance and email them. I would suggest in your email you write that you are a small business and list all the info they are asking you to cough up. You can always find them on the social sites keep asking.

Your money you earned it .So much for seamless integration.  And you can call your bank find out the name of the bank processor  and contact # who put those in there. Not the sender, the processor.

It sounds like eBay and their verification service are tightening up their screening process.  The original poster stated nothing had changed, but it turned out there were discrepancies with his name and address. One reason to have everything consistent.

Ebay finds a "discrepancy". They do not tell you what it is. Then a game of Battleship starts with the seller having to guess which item is "wrong". On a positive note, sometimes submitting a W-9 Form and a color-corrected 800 dpi scan of the state ID. Be careful because a scan with a clear enough image may be too large for the upload to be accepted. Ebay should rename their software department to the Catch-22 department. I have three accounts. Accepted information is inconsistent.

@elcheapoposters

Ebay couldn't accept Chime because Chime is not a bank and whatever is attached has to be a bank.

Yes it is annoying, but everything has to perfectly match.  Names have to be the same from how you set it up on Ebay to how it is stated on at the bank.  Same with your address.  The smallest difference can be very frustrating.

If you want to hide your listings so you don't get any purchases while you get this worked out, you might find using the Time Away function will work well for you.  You can hide your listings for up to 30 days.

Yes they do like their clean crisp photos of stuff.  I know I had to send in my DL a few times before getting it to their liking.

I absolutely agree with you that the process Ebay is using for verification is beyond ridiculous.  No other site has the issues Ebay does in this area.  I've fought with them on behalf of other members since 2020 to get this fixed and more streamlined.  But as usual it seems to only get worse.

I wish I had some smart thing to say that would help members having these issues.  About the only thing I can say is that when they are asking you to update any type of information on your account.  DON'T type over what was there to make it what it needs to be.  CLEAR the field completely and then type in what is correct.

I know that may not sound like much, But I've known sellers that have done this and it has resolved some issues for them.  So it doesn't hurt to try.

I do hope you did get everything worked out and your account functions like it should now.

As said bank details have to match eBay details but then you find additional docs don't match. I was lucky enough to finally have a chat with the "right" CS who said that once the bank is accepted that's set so you can then change your eBay details again to match your docs.

This part seems to be constantly checked because for some reason I changed my eBay details, back to what they were which was matching the bank, and up popped the red banner. Changed the details back and the banner disappeared which was a relief.

Over here eBay is now in the process of re-verifying banks again with micro payments. Not well thought out as it's causing problems for some with more than one selling id if they receive all the micro payments at the same time.

it is a classic and outrageous eBay glitch. But now taking it into the crazy conspiracy land about SVB and Signature Bank collapse is nonsense

Hello!  Mercari is doing the same thing.  They are holding my $444.00 earnings for 5 months now.  They verified all my account information when I opened my account.
I refuse to give them my Government Driver's license.  This is begging for identify theft.  Why would Mercari need my photo id plus my legal signature?  They already have my bank account verified, my social security number plus my visa card.
It doesn't take a brain to know that once your legal id and legal signature is given to an ONLINE company, all your money can be removed from your account by identity theft hackers.
This is the same game Paypal plays.
Ditch Ebay, Ditch Mercari and any other online site that requires that much information over and above what you already have on file.  They are crooks, they are thieves and because of the vast amaunt of sellers they have, just think of the MONEY they can steal from you by freezing your account.

I received notification from Amazon a couple days ago that I have to reverify myself with them too.  The difference is Amazon gives you 60 days to respond before it has any negative affect on your account.

1. Go to Seller Central.
2. Go to your “Account Information” page in Seller Central.
3. Click the “Start verification” link on the “Account Information” page in Seller Central. You will need to provide the following information to complete your verification:
a. Information about your business;
b. Information about your identity;
c. A government-issued photo ID;
d. A bank account or credit card statement;
e. A business license, if applicable.

Once again - blame in the wrong places !!!   The ''Inform Consumers Act'' specifies that marketplaces like eBay and Mercari must review participants information ANNUALLY!!   Here it is -- as Ronald Reagan said, the scariest sentence in the English language is ''We're the Government, and we're here to help.''

Hey people - pay more attention to WHO you VOTE FOR ......

I thought the INFORM act allowed either government identification meaning your business registration or photo id (if you are not a licensed biz in your state) you'd have to read the final version as signed in the appropriations bill
