eBay Seller Describes New Scam Involving Multi Item Orders

By: Reader

Dear Ina,
Buyers on eBay have found a new method to scam sellers out of money, and eBay supports this.

A buyer orders two items from the same seller then opens returns for these two items, but ships only one item back, providing only one tracking number.

Buyer then waits until the first item has been returned and refunded, then opens a case with eBay for the second, non-returned item, and provides the tracking number for the first returned item. eBay of course decides with the buyer three minutes later and the seller is scammed out of money.

This all happens with the AI system they have, and as a seller you can't do anything about it as long you do not have an eBay store for a monthly subscription of $299.

There is no phone number to call anymore, and the chat is through an AI which gets you nowhere.

Happened to us three times now.

The 299.00 you pay for an anchor store entitles you to a direct customer service phone number. Nothing more. If you don't pay for an anchor store you are just noise to be shunned.

Why is it you have to have a $300 store to get this resolved?

Also what are the prices of the different types of stores.. Is basic still 15.95?

That's terrible its happened to you. Have you thought about reporting that to the usps. That's mail fraud you know.  I would think you have the transaction history to see that they recycled the tracking?

@fruity love you.

BECAUSE you can only get phone support with an anchor store or higher. They ain't and never have given phone support to those that don't want to pay for it. Been that way for years. They are the special people of sleezebay.

I don't have an anchor store and I talk to USA customer service reps all the time.  However, I was offered eBay concierge service back when it started. I'm only a mid-level seller. I just pay for a basic store. Nothing special. I either call and wait, or they call me back. It actually does work.

When ever I had a question I went and asked for a call and it usually came within a short period of time from a US rep.

Classic eBay "seller protection".

This is internet and postal fraud. Call the buyer's local law enforcement and file charges. Get your postal carrier involved in a fraud case against the buyer.

Works both ways. Ordered 4 items from 1 seller. Order was shipped in 2 seperate packages (each package had same tracking number !).

Both packages delivered, each package missing the more expensive item.

It's incredible that eBay would commit crimes against a beginner's forum.
Pro tip: say this to the eBay bot: "call me."

I've solved all of my Ebay problems through the chat assistant. Never had to call anyone.

Ebay would not allow the same tracking number used by more than one selling account.
But it looks like it does not apply if it is reused by the same seller.
Some seller could argue based on weight,2 items would weigh more than one item
