Did Spring Fever Impact Early April Sales?

Dear Ina,
Our experience in the last few weeks....

As you may recall, we sell stamps to collectors. We are mail order and internet (our own large website); we gave up on eBay eons ago and do not use ANY of the "venues" for selling.

As I am sure you know, stamp collectors have been buying like crazy in the last year. Stuck at home with nothing to do, so they got out the old stamp collection. Wonderful for us!

However, about 3 weeks ago, the party stopped. There was no particular change in what we were doing. Everything suddenly got very quiet and were at or below pre-pandemic levels.

Now, 3 weeks later, the volume of orders has recovered somewhat.  Maybe they have gotten some of the need to "get out and do something" out of their system and/or people have decided that leaving the house is not all that it's cracked up to be. :-)

I normally experience a slow down this time of year, every year [except last year].  Starting in March and ending after tax day in April.  I've always thought it was due to people busy trying to get their taxes done or trying to save money to pay their taxes.

This year IRS did extend the deadline for taxes, but lots of people didn't know that.

IDK if it had anything to do with it this year, that is just what I see on a normal year.  And we all know this past year has been anything but normal.

A spring slowdown is normal.  People took up all kinds of hobbies during lockdown that have been set aside now that vaccinations and lockdowns have slowed the progress of the pandemic some.  If cases go back up and lockdowns start again, stamp collecting may become a popular hobby once more.  But don't plan on that happening.
